    Following the Week 13 action, it was clear for two teams — Miami and SMU needed to win to punch their tickets to the ACC Championship Game. SMU did just that, but Miami lost to Syracuse in a thriller.

    The loss to Syracuse evicted Miami from the ACC Championship Game, and after losing to South Carolina earlier in the day, put Clemson in the title game against SMU.

    Miami not only lost their spot in the ACC Championship Game, it put their spot in the College Football Playoffs in jeopardy. Early lines indicate the Hurricanes cost themselves a berth in both games, according to the early Vegas projections.

    Years after plucking teams from the defunct Big East, the ACC had been subject to conference realignment rumors in prior years. With member schools Florida State and Clemson at the center of exit rumors, the conference worked hard to add new members in 2024.
