There’s only a couple days left before the spring transfer portal period (open from April 16 to April 25) comes to a close.
The Virginia Tech Hokies haven’t been aggressive — yet — in reeling in any players in the portal, but they have seen multiple players walk out the door and look for a home elsewhere.

Who’s Transferring Out of Virginia Tech?
LB Jayden McDonald
A redshirt junior, Jayden McDonald started eight games across three seasons in action for the Hokies and contributed from his linebacker position. His best season came in 2023, when he registered 30 tackles and one pass breakup.
McDonald played in two games in 2024 before missing the rest of the season due to injury. He has one year of eligibility remaining with a possible additional year due to medical redshirt.
DL Jorden McDonald
Jayden’s brother, Jorden McDonald contributed in four seasons for the Hokies yet maintained his redshirt season after only appearing in four games in 2021. He has 10 career tackles and joined his brother in the portal.
It will be interesting to see if they decide to land somewhere together or go to separate programs.
S Braylon Johnson
The son of a Virginia Tech player, Braylon Johnson never started a game in two seasons. He appeared in 16 games and amassed 11 total tackles.
S Cameren Fleming
A redshirt freshman, Cameren Fleming didn’t see any action in 2023 and only appeared in four games a season ago, tallying just two tackles.
Who’s Transferring Into Virginia Tech?
There are currently no players slated to join the Hokies ahead of the 2025-26 season. That may change within the next 48 hours, however, as the portal period won’t close until April 25.
