The Seattle Seahawks already have Sam Darnold, Drew Lock, and Sam Howell, but they’re still exploring quarterback options in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Why the Seahawks May Still Draft a Quarterback Despite a Crowded QB Room
The Seahawks could have their franchise quarterback in Darnold, who they signed to a three-year, $100.5 million deal in free agency last month. The former No. 3 overall draft pick impressed with the Minnesota Vikings a season ago, but he faltered when it mattered most. Having seen that, Seattle gave itself an idea of whether the version of Darnold they get isn’t what they hoped for.
The Seahawks can cut him at the start of next offseason after one year and $37.5 million. Behind him, Seattle has Lock, Howell, and Jaren Hall. Seahawks general manager John Schneider likes what he has, but sees a scenario in which he could bolster that group.
“I think it’s a great situation,” Schneider said last week on Seattle Sports 710. “We have four guys that we really like. … It doesn’t preclude us from doing anything in the draft either, in figuring out what’s going on there.”
“It’s really like an ‘OK, let’s get this in the mix.’ Drew had other opportunities, so we figured we better wrap this up, kind of put a bow on it, get him in the building, and then let’s see what happens in the draft, because it’s difficult to find that great fit at quarterback as you move through the process.”
Schneider isn’t quick to agree with detractors of this year’s signal-caller class, which includes Texas’s Quinn Ewers, Ohio State’s Will Howard, and Syracuse’s Kyle McCord.
“I’d be careful when you hear people say this isn’t a great draft (for quarterbacks),” Schneider said on the Seahawks’ official website. “I think it depends on the team, the player, the quarterback, how you’re going to acquire him, where you’re going to acquire him.”
Schneider signed Matt Flynn in free agency in 2012 and then took Russell Wilson in the draft. Since taking over the front office in Seattle in 2010, Schneider has only taken two quarterbacks—Wilson and Alex McGough.

The Seahawks could offload Howell this offseason, as trade rumors have cropped up around the former North Carolina passer and 2022 fifth-round draft choice.
Seattle has two picks in each of the second and third rounds. Being that it’s unlikely it takes a passer with the No. 18 overall choice, those could be used on a signal-caller.
