Steve Sarkisian Says 5-Star DB Jonah Williams Is ‘Looking Like Juan Soto,’ Unconcerned With Transition Back to Football

Steve Sarkisian Raves About 5-Star DB Jonah Williams’ Progress, Compares Him to Juan Soto

But Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian isn’t worried about Williams’ baseball endeavors, according to “On Texas Football” college football insider and recruiting analyst CJ Vogel.

“Steve Sarkisian says Jonah Williams is ‘out there looking like Juan Soto right now’ on the diamond,” Vogel tweeted Tuesday. “Says the natural transition back into football will occur right after the baseball season.”

Soto, of course, signed the richest contract in sports history in December 2024, a $765 million behemoth that ties him to the New York Mets for 15 years. The four-time All-Star and World Series champion has already hit 204 home runs at just age 26.

Williams, who plays left field for the Longhorns’ baseball team, is “50-50” on whether he’ll forgo his football commitment if he’s drafted high enough in the 2025 MLB Draft, his family told Texas Football.

“Jonah ranks near the top of the best athletes this city [Galveston] has ever produced,” Ball High School athletic director Jerald Temple said in October. “I grew up here and played with a lot of guys who made it to the highest levels, but Jonah’s versatility sets him apart. He does everything well.

“Not to take anything from those guys, but he might be on his own level by the time he’s done.”
