5 Transfer Portal Landing Spots for Amare Campbell: Where Will the UNC LB Land?

Former North Carolina Tar Heel Amare Campbell entered the transfer portal this week and is ranked as the seventh-best player available in the entire portal.

The young linebacker racked up 6.5 sacks and one forced fumble in 2024 and will be highly coveted by many teams who need an upgrade at EDGE. Campbell is talented enough to play almost anywhere, but here are the top five spots for the Virginia native to land.

Top 5 Landing Spots For Amare Campbell

    West Virginia Mountaineers

Campbell was between West Virginia and North Carolina when he committed to the Tar Heels out of high school. The mountaineers certainly have the money to afford him, and maybe West Virginia’s new coaching staff is more appealing to Campbell than the old one. I think this fit makes a lot of sense.

    Virginia Tech Hokies

With Campbell originally being from Virginia, I think the Hokies make a lot of sense. Virginia Tech needs some help at linebacker, and Campbell could slide in and start for them right away.

Being close to home is also a plus, and Virginia Tech’s campus is just a three-hour drive from Campbell’s hometown. It’s also worth mentioning that Virginia Tech has some decent-sized pockets and could make a good offer to Campbell.

    Maryland Terrapins

Campbell took three official visits when he was being recruited out of high school: North Carolina, West Virginia, and Maryland. The Maryland coaching staff is still intact from when Campbell was first recruited there, so it would make sense that head coach Mike Locksley would get in touch with Campbell ASAP.

    Colorado Buffaloes

If there’s one certainty in the chaos of the transfer portal, it’s the fact that Deion Sanders is going to be active looking for talent to add to Colorado’s roster. The Buffaloes have already signed three transfers in the spring window and are hungry for more. Campbell fills a need and would be a great fit on Colorado’s defense.

    Penn State Nittany Lions

The Nittany Lions lost Kobe King to the NFL this season and could use another veteran off-ball linebacker to help their defense in 2025. While I don’t think Campbell would be a full-time starter at Penn State, he definitely could be a rotational guy for the Nittany Lions, and they definitely have the money to get him if they want him.
