Jaxson Dart vs. Shedeur Sanders: Dan Orlovsky Weighs In on NFL Draft Debate

Former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky has revealed that he believes teams going for Jaxon Dart ahead of Shedeur Sanders wouldn’t be the worst decision ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay.

Originally projected to be in a battle for the first pick of the Draft with Miami’s Cam Ward, certain reports have indicated that Sanders may have potentially entered a battle with Ole Miss’s Dart for the second quarterback spot.

Dan Orlovsky: Drafting Jaxson Dart Over Shedeur Sanders Wouldn’t Be a Mistake

During an appearance on “First Take,” Orlovsky revealed that his thought process behind Dart going ahead of Sanders was due to the different skill sets teams would be looking for.

“Jaxson Dart and Shedeur Sanders are like the perfect examples of where they go is going to be so paramount because their skill sets, their traits are very different. Jaxson Dart is more athletic. He’s a little bit more of the ‘We can design quarterback run around him.’ He can push the ball downfield as part of their offense at Ole Miss.”

Last season, for Ole Miss, Dart rushed for 495 yards with 124 carries, averaging 4 yards per carry; in comparison, Shedeur had 100 carries, with -50 rushing yards, meaning the Colorado Quarterback has never had a net positive rushing season in his career

“Everything about the first round of the NFL Draft is physical talent,” Orlovsky said. “If you just took these guys side by side and said, ‘Who physically is more talented?’ You would say Jaxson Dart. He’s bigger. He’s stronger. I think he’s faster.”

Orlovsky also went on to claim that Dart has a significantly better arm than Sanders due to his strength.

“He’s got more ability to make some of the ‘wow’ throws than Shedeur has,” claimed the former NFL quarterback. However, Sanders had a better deep ball accuracy compared to Dart last year, with a 55% success rate compared to Dart’s 51%.

Dart Has Jalen Hurts And Josh Allen Traits, Claims Orlovsky

During his interview, Orlovsky also claimed that Dart’s draft stock is significantly higher following the success of athletic quarterbacks last season, with Josh Allen winning the MVP, while Jalen Hurts led the Eagles to the Super Bowl with 630 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns.

“If you’re a team like the Saints, and you sit there and go, Kellen Moore, Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles, they like the quarterback run, you’re gonna go Jaxson Dart just because of it. If you’re Brian Daboll and the New York Giants, and you go, ‘Well, my experience with Josh Allen tells me I want that style or that profile.’ Jaxson Dart fits that,” Orlovsky explained.

“So I’ve had these guys much closer than probably others since the very beginning of this process, and I just don’t believe it would be a mistake. It doesn’t mean Shedeur is not good and has the chance to be a good player in the NFL.”

We will find out whether Orlovsky is right, with the first round of the NFL Draft set to take place on April 24 in Green Bay, Wis.
