The four-star prospect from CATS Academy had pledged to Bobby Hurley’s program in January, choosing the Sun Devils over several top-tier schools.
On3’s rankings placed Curtis as the No. 70 overall recruit in the country and the 10th-best center in his class. His decision to reopen his recruitment, announced Friday morning, halts what was expected to be a forthcoming signing. Curtis’ change of plans has now reignited interest from a host of major programs eager to land the versatile big man.

During the 2023-24 Icelandic Subway League season, Curtis averaged 15.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 64.7% from the field and a sharp 42.2% from beyond the arc—rare efficiency for a player his size.
Curtis plays more like a stretch forward than a traditional big, with a strong face-up game and the ability to handle the ball, create plays, and switch defensively. His relatively late start in basketball adds to his intrigue as a high-ceiling prospect.
His initial college decision came down to Arizona State, Alabama, Creighton, Indiana, Stanford, UCF, Xavier, and West Virginia, with ASU’s facilities and up-tempo style tipping the scales. However, the recent departure of 5-star freshman Jayden Quaintance to Kentucky and other roster changes may have prompted his change of heart. Here are potential spots:
Indiana
Curtis visited Indiana in December 2024 and has ties to head coach Darian DeVries, who previously recruited him at West Virginia. IU’s need for frontcourt depth and DeVries’ system, which values skill and versatility, make it a strong fit.
West Virginia
The Mountaineers hosted Curtis early and remain in the mix. Their frontcourt struggled in 2024–25, ranking 112th in rebounding margin. Curtis’s size, rebounding (8.9 RPG), and shot-blocking (1.7 BPG) could immediately help.
