Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin Snags 50-TD QB Trinidad Chambliss, Adds 3-Star CB in Transfer Portal Day 1 Wins

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin wasted no time securing two potential impact players as the transfer portal opened for the spring period. Despite several key losses to the 2025 NFL Draft, Kiffin is doing his best to keep the Lane Train on the rails with his work in the portal, it appears.

Ole Miss Lands QB Trinidad Chambliss and CB Tavoy Feagin on Day 1 of Transfer Portal

It didn’t take long for Kiffin to get to work reshaping his roster.

On the very first day of the spring portal period, he added D-II All-American quarterback Trinidad Chambliss from Ferris State.

Chambliss led his team to a D-II national title last season, throwing for 2,925 yards and 26 touchdowns while rushing for 1,019 yards and 25 more scores. His dual-threat ability immediately adds a new wrinkle to the quarterback room.

Austin Simmons has been the presumed starter for Ole Miss heading into 2025 after Jaxson Dart declared for the NFL Draft. While Simmons impressed in seven appearances last season, adding a high-upside competitor like Chambliss only strengthens the team’s outlook.

Kiffin, known for his willingness to play the best option under center regardless of pedigree, is expected to give Chambliss a legitimate shot at the job. That competition could push Simmons — and the team — to another level.

    But Kiffin didn’t stop there.

The Rebels also added former four-star recruit and Clemson transfer cornerback Tavoy Feagin to bolster the secondary. Feagin redshirted his freshman season and didn’t see the field for the Tigers, but arrives at Ole Miss with four years of eligibility remaining.

The addition comes at a critical time. The Rebels ranked 91st nationally in passing yards allowed per game last season (237.8), making secondary help a clear priority.

Feagin provides a long runway for development under the Rebels’ staff — and in both cases, the transfers appear to be net positives for the program.
