The Maryland guard entered the transfer and narrowed his options to six schools, including USC and Gonzaga.
Rodney Rice hit the transfer portal earlier this year after head coach Kevin Willard left College Park for Villanova. He has narrowed his options to six programs and appears to be nearing a decision on his future.
Rice spent just one season with the Terrapins, averaging 13.8 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 43.4% from the field. His potential destinations include USC, Tennessee, Gonzaga, Auburn, Villanova, and Maryland.

Rice visits USC.
According to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, Rice planned official visits with Villanova and Tennessee and was scheduled to meet with Gonzaga and USC via Zoom calls. Rice already visited Tennessee over the weekend.
“We got to see the football game. Hung out with the guys some. Yeah, my experience was fun,” Rice told RTI of his visit.
Rice has now scheduled a visit to USC. Initially, he only completed a Zoom call with the program.

Rice is highly sought after in the transfer portal. He can play defense and has proven himself to be a sharpshooter from mid- to long-range. Any team looking to add a shooter will approach Rice for his services.
It is worth noting that Villanova’s head coach was Rice’s coach at Maryland. This factor could come into play when it’s time to decide, as Rice could be willing to work with Kevin Willard again.
Tennessee has also secured the commitment of Rice’s backcourt mate, Ja’Kobi Gillespie, and it is pitching the idea of pairing them together again to Rice.
“They want me in the backcourt with Ja’Kobi,” Rice said. “We got experience playing together. We’re going to have a good team, a winning team. They’re trying to make a Final Four push.”
