Louisville Cardinals quarterback Tyler Shough had a long seven-year college career, spending time at three universities.
As the draft progressed, the former Cardinal appeared one of the fastest-rising players, with his stock rising considerably lately.

Tyler Shough Mock Draft Projections
Following the 2025 season, Shough was seen as a fourth—to sixth-round draft pick. But after further looking at his tape during his seventh-year senior year with Louisville, scouts and analysts alike have reevaluated their projections.
While his age—he’ll be 26 in September—tempers the belief that he still has untapped potential, there’s a growing sentiment that he could run an NFL offense from day one, albeit not as a Pro Bowl-caliber player. He may never be that, but with over a quarter of the league needing the quarterback position and a weak draft, Shough’s services could be enough for a team to take a chance on him.
Shough has a powerful arm and showed the ability to make nearly every throw that will be asked of him at the next level. Along with that, he’s a solid athlete and can get positive yards in open space.
His maturity and mental toughness go hand-in-hand with his age, which he has displayed throughout his college career. Shough endured three season-ending injuries that resulted in his six years of eligibility.
He is currently rated as the 104th best player on CSN’s Big Board but was not listed in either of our most recent Three-Round Mock Drafts, displaying the differing opinion on him as a prospect.
But all it takes is one team to believe in Shough — which could be sooner than many think, including our analysts.
Tyler Shough Impresses With 40-Yard Dash Time
It wasn’t just Shough’s time in the 40-yard dash (4.63 seconds) that turned heads from NFL scouts, but rather his willingness to participate in the event.
One of three passers to run the 40-yard dash — and the only one who is sure to be drafted — Shough’s competitiveness was on full display, and he was one of the main drivers behind his choice to run.
He also mentioned numerous times at the combine that he didn’t know if he would play football again following his latest season-ending injury. His perspective has since changed, as he noted that he sees every chance to play football as a privilege.
His time of 4.63 seconds was faster than many expected but justified the notion that he could escape from the pocket at the NFL level. When asked to run more, the show was produced at the requisite level.
He wasn’t asked to do so with Louisville in 2024, but there remains a belief that that part of his game would translate better to the next level.
