Abdul Carter, the Penn State Nittany Lions edge rusher, is going to be the most sought-after defensive player in the 2025 NFL Draft. Carter will learn where he lands in a couple of weeks. As of right now, Carter is trending to be the potential No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft. However, Carter is dealing with a nagging foot injury, which leads many to wonder if this will cause his spot to fall.
In the NFL Combine, Carter never ran or completed any drills. He also had a rather quiet Pro Day on the Penn State campus, all while he was dealing with a foot injury. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, delivered an update on his client Thursday, per ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, and it has drawn some careful optimism from a doctor.

Abdul Carter’s Foot Injury Healing Well, Experts Say It Shouldn’t Impact Draft Stock
“Abdul Carter’s medical recheck in Indianapolis today showed that the stress reaction in his foot is healing, there has been improvement and no surgery will be needed, per his agent Drew Rosenhaus,” Schefter posted on X.

This post from Schefter drew many fans who commented in support of Carter, including his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. “It should be a non-factor with the teams at this point,” Rosenhaus said to Schefter. It also drew some careful optimism from a professional in the field.
Dr. Jesse Morse is a board-certified Family and Sports Medicine physician. He’s an expert in regenerative medicine, including PRP and Stem Cell procedures. Dr. Morse took to X to respond to Schefter’s post about Carter’s injury.
“Happy to hear this,” Dr. Morse wrote. “As a combination of reactive and proactive, I would still recommend using a prolotherapy-based approach to stabilize the entire foot and ankle to decrease the stress on the previously stress-fractured area and strengthen up the individual ligaments so that he can prevent re-injury.”
Carter earned a top-five draft projection for his name as soon as he entered his name into this season’s draft class. The Nittany Lions star declared himself the best player in this draft class on March 28th, and he wasn’t alone in thinking that. Many mock drafts wrote his name down as the No. 1 overall pick for the Tennessee Titans.

However, it remains to be seen where Carter may end up. It’s expected he will be in the top five of the class. Cam Ward has made a strong case for himself to be the No. 1 overall pick, and that’s seeming more and more likely as each day passes. One thing we know for sure is Carter’s injury shouldn’t be much of a deterrent for teams.
