The transfer portal is heating up, and one of the hottest names to emerge is Lamar Wilkerson. According to multiple reports, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Sam Houston State has scheduled visits to Kentucky, Indiana, Auburn and Ole Miss after entering the transfer portal on March 24. Wilkerson’s elite shooting ability has made him one of the most coveted players available.
College basketball’s landscape continues to shift through the portal, with premium shooters becoming the most valuable commodity. Wilkerson’s impressive 2024-25 season saw him average 20.5 points while shooting 44.5% from 3-point range on eight attempts per game. His decision will significantly impact whichever program lands his commitment before the portal closes on April 22.

Sharpshooter Drawing Elite Interest
Wilkerson’s path to becoming a top portal target wasn’t conventional. Unranked out of Arkansas in the Class of 2020, he began his career at Three Rivers College before transferring to Sam Houston State in 2022. Over three seasons with the Bearkats, he developed into a scoring machine, culminating in a breakout 2024-25 season.

In addition to his scoring, Wilkerson added 4.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals in 34.9 minutes per game this past season. His career averages at Sam Houston include 13.9 points, 3.6 assists and 2.7 rebounds. His efficiency also stood out, shooting 47.7% from the field and posting a 59.1% effective field goal percentage.
Where Could Wilkerson Transfer?
Indiana will be the first to host Wilkerson, with a visit scheduled for this weekend (April 11–13). According to A Sea of Blue, the Hoosiers are seen as the favorite, though Kentucky is making a strong push. Visits to Kentucky, Auburn and Ole Miss will follow after the NCAA dead period.
Kentucky Wildcats
Mark Pope enters his second season at Kentucky after leading the Wildcats to a Sweet 16 appearance in 2024-25. After John Calipari’s departure left the roster without a single scholarship player, Pope rebuilt with key transfers such as Jaland Lowe (Pittsburgh), Kam Williams (Tulane) and Lamont Butler (San Diego State).
Pope’s offensive philosophy is built around 3-point shooting—his BYU teams regularly attempted threes on more than half of their field goals. As a “true blue blood” program with deep NIL resources, Kentucky offers Wilkerson a high-profile platform and financial upside.
Indiana Hoosiers
New Indiana head coach Darian DeVries, hired on March 18, faces a major roster overhaul after seven scholarship players entered the portal following Mike Woodson’s decision not to return. Guards Gabe Cupps, Myles Rice, Kanaan Carlyle and Jakai Newton are among those who departed, creating a pressing need in the backcourt.
DeVries has already added two transfers: Conor Enright (DePaul) and Reed Bailey (Davidson). Wilkerson is also familiar with Assembly Hall, having scored 18 points against the Hoosiers on Dec. 3, 2024—an experience that could help Indiana’s staff make their pitch.
Auburn Tigers
Bruce Pearl heads into his 12th season at Auburn as the program’s all-time wins leader. Auburn finished the 2024-25 season with a 32-6 record, including 15-3 in SEC play, winning the regular-season title. As the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, the Tigers reached the Final Four before falling to Florida, 79-73.
Powered by SEC Player of the Year Johni Broome, Auburn’s success also earned Pearl AP Coach of the Year honors. Wilkerson would have the opportunity to join an already proven contender with championship aspirations.
Ole Miss Rebels
Chris Beard’s Ole Miss squad wraps up Wilkerson’s visit schedule. The Rebels went 24-12 overall and 10-8 in SEC play, finishing sixth in the conference. Their Sweet 16 run in the NCAA Tournament marked their deepest postseason showing since 2013.

Guard Sean Pedulla led the team with 15.4 points and 3.8 assists per game. The Rebels provide Wilkerson with SEC competition and a chance to make an immediate offensive impact. Their inclusion in his final four indicates their strong interest.
