Could the Patriots Draft Abdul Carter?

In the most recent mock drafts from draft analysts Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay, Carter is predicted to go to the New York Giants with the No. 3 overall pick, which is one spot ahead of where the Patriots are picking.

New England is trying to rebuild its culture after a tough stint with former player Jerod Mayo as the head coach. Former Patriots Super Bowl champion player and Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel is looking to turn the page to a new era in his return to Massachusetts.

The team spent big in free agency, acquiring the likes of former All-Pro wide receiver Stefon Diggs and former Pro Bowl linebacker Harold Landry III, along with quality role players in offensive tackle Morgan Moses, cornerback Carlton Davis, and defensive tackle Milton Williams.

Now, they are looking to cash in at the draft.

    Carter’s Best Fit

While the Patriots may be looking for a star edge rusher, they might not be the best fit for him.

The Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year could fit in very well with teams such as the New York Jets, Carolina Panthers, and Chicago Bears if he ended up falling.

This is a player who can start on day one. His 12 sacks last season for the Nittany Lions proved it in a very big way. The three-time All-Big Ten selection recorded 23 sacks, five forced fumbles, and 13 pass deflections in his three years at State College.

His ability to win one-on-one against any offensive lineman is what could take him far in his NFL career. He can win with power, speed, or finesse moves.

No matter who makes the decision to select Carter, who is from Philadelphia, in the first round later this month, they are going to be getting a starting-caliber edge defender who has the chance to be a star for a long time because of his top-tier skill set.
