“No Structure Under John Mara”: ESPN Panel Slams Giants as Risky Fit for Jalen Milroe

During a recent episode of ESPN’s “Get Up,” Louis Riddick delivered a harsh assessment of the Giants’ internal structure. He claimed that Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe would be better off avoiding the team entirely due to instability and poor organizational consistency under co-owner John Mara.

“He [Milroe] needs consistency. He needs a nice, stable culture… not constant churning of coaches and coordinators,” Riddick said on “Get Up.”

Riddick emphasized that Milroe, a dual-threat quarterback prospect who has drawn comparisons to Lamar Jackson, needs a “stable culture” for proper development. In contrast, the Giants present what he considers the worst-case scenario for a rookie quarterback.

“He doesn’t need a situation where it’s constant churning of coaches and offensive coordinators,” Riddick said. “In this situation with the Giants in particular… you’ve set him back.”

Riddick painted a bleak picture of what Milroe would face if New York drafted him. Milroe would likely sit out his rookie season, with Russell Wilson set to start and Jameis Winston as the backup. Riddick questioned what would happen if the team underperforms.

“John Mara already knows he’s going to blow everyone out of there anyway,” Riddick continued.

“Two years. Two systems. No consistency. No structure around him… Sounds like Daniel Jones to me,” he added. The “Get Up” segment extended beyond Milroe, with analysts Marcus Spears, Dan Graziano, and Riddick sharing their boldest NFL draft predictions:

    • Riddick: Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty could break Eric Dickerson’s rookie rushing record if he lands with the right offensive line.
    • Spears: The Steelers will trade up to draft Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the top 10.
    • Graziano: Hunter and Sanders could land on the same team.

The trio also defended Sanders, the son of coach Deion Sanders, from critics who view him as overconfident or extravagant.

Riddick further stated that Sanders’ arm talent, consistency, intelligence, and leadership make him a “surefire” professional success—provided the team that selects him protects and develops him appropriately.

Whether it was Milroe, Sanders, or another rookie quarterback, one message was clear: the situation matters significantly. Team instability, from the front office to the coaching staff, could potentially derail even the most promising careers.
