Matthew Golden Could Be Drafted by the Cowboys

This visit carries significance because Yahoo Sports’s 8.0 mock draft projects Golden to Dallas, while ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. has him going to Arizona in his latest mock draft. Dallas currently holds the No. 12 and No. 44 overall picks in this year’s draft.

As the team prepares for its first season under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, it will need to address the void at wide receiver created by the departure of Brandin Cooks. The 31-year-old veteran signed with the New Orleans Saints this offseason.

If Dallas is considering a first-round wide receiver, they might find their target close to home in Austin, Texas.

    What Golden Is Capable Of

The former all-conference player is considered one of the top big-play threats in this draft class.

As a junior in 2024, he recorded 58 receptions for 987 yards, helping the Longhorns reach the semifinals of the College Football Playoff. His 17.0 yards-per-reception average should intrigue teams like the Dallas Cowboys, who could potentially draft him.

Pairing him with All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb could provide the Cowboys with a dangerous combination both in the short and deep passing games if utilized effectively. Pro Bowl quarterback Dak Prescott could also greatly benefit from the addition of Golden.

Prescott and Cowboys fans know well about the team’s lengthy absence from the Super Bowl and even the NFC Championship game. While Golden might not be the team’s sole missing piece, he would undoubtedly make the offense more formidable.
