DJ Lagway’s Stats and SEC Dominance Lock Him in as Top 2025 QB1

D.J. Lagway Ranked No. 1 Quarterback by On3 Analysts

The man who holds the keys to success for the Gators in 2025 will be D.J. Lagway. On3 analysts Andy and Ari recently explained why they are so high on Lagway heading into this year.

Although Lagway played sparingly last year as a freshman (he started six games), he showed he could be one of the best players in the country. While his stats might not be obvious to everyone, he put together some solid numbers.

He completed close to 60% of his passes, produced a passer rating of 154.9, and threw for close to 2,000 yards.

As the analysts noted, if you aren’t impressed by his season numbers, look at his performance in the Ole Miss game last season, where he led his team to victory over the No. 9 team in the country.

What Can Florida Accomplish in 2025?

Simply put, the Gators must win more than eight games to keep head coach Billy Napier’s job. After what coaches like Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer accomplished during their careers in the Swamp, every coach will be held to that same standard.

Napier has had just one winning season in three years. If it wasn’t for his team’s surprising run at the end of last year, he likely would have finished with a losing record again.

However, the team beat the top-25 teams in LSU and Ole Miss, along with their in-state rivals, the Florida State Seminoles. They have momentum heading into 2025, with Lagway taking the reins as the starter in his sophomore season.
