For Mirkovic, the path to Illinois is clear. With Tomislav Ivisic returning to the Illini after an injury-plagued season and his twin brother, Arkansas transfer Zvonimir Ivisic, joining him this year, he will have familiar faces to lean on. The trio played professionally for SC Derby in Montenegro, with Mirkovic playing for the team for the past two years.

Mirkovic played 24 games for SC Derby, shooting 46.7% from two and 27.3% from three. He averaged 22.3 points, 13 rebounds, and 3.3 assists at the Adidas Next Generation U18 Tournament in 2024.

Zvonimir never averaged more than 3.9 points and 2.7 rebounds in two seasons at SC Derby. Tomislav averaged 7.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in his final season in the Adriatic League.

Mirkovic has been heralded as a top international prospect in the 2025 class, receiving praise from scouts, including ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.

Illinois is looking for help this season after a disappointing 2024-25. Head coach Brad Underwood’s team finished the season 7th in the Big Ten, with a 22-13 record, including a 12-8 record in the conference. The Illini lost to Maryland in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinal before being awarded a No. 6 seed in the NCAA tournament.
