Chiney Ogwumike and Andraya Carter, Break Down Paige Bueckers Game

“Do you hear that sound? It’s the sound of a potential number-one pick,” Ogwumike said.

“Potential?” Carter said. “It is almost guaranteed that Paige Bueckers will be the No. 1 overall pick because of her entire career. You can trust what she is bringing to the game, and she’s a three-level scorer.”

“Let’s talk about level one, getting all the way to the rim. Do you see the handles? And then the finish, over the front of the rim, through defense, over a high contest, she’s gonna need those types of finishes at the next level. Going one-on-one, she can go into takeover mode, she put up 34 points in this game [against South Dakota State in the second round of the NCAA tournament], now you see her using the ball screen.”

“This is the next level of scoring, and that is the three-point shot. The space Paige Bueckers creates with that step back — is something she’s going to need at the next level against WNBA defenders. And then here, the mid-range, the third level. Turns around, eyes find the rim, high contest. We are talking about someone who is 50/40/85 on her career, and when she goes in takeover mode, you either can’t stop it, or you try to stop it, and she finds her teammates. A great pick for the W.”

“Paige Bueckers, top five over her career at UConn in scoring, and she will likely take over at the next level,” Ogwumike said.
