Former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe delivered a stark reality check to both fans and NFL teams regarding Travis Hunter’s potential to play on both offense and defense in the league.

Heisman Winner Reveals He Wants to Play Every Snap if Possible
This comes after a statement from last year’s Heisman Trophy winner, where he expressed his desire to play every snap on both sides of the ball if given the opportunity.
Speaking to Bruce Murray of SiriusXM, when asked about his position at the next level, the Colorado two-way star responded, “Both.”

“Both, just like you saw me play,” Hunter confidently stated humorously in response to the question before elaborating on his meaning.
“All of them, if they give me the chance and the opportunity to do,” Hunter continued when questioned about the number of snaps he wants to take in the NFL.
The Heisman winner was questioned about how he would manage the added stress of playing both sides of the ball, including learning playbooks, attending offensive and defensive meetings, and the extensive preparation involved.
Hunter simply replied that even with eight hours of sleep, he would still have 16 hours left in the day to prepare.
Shannon Sharpe Drops Cold Dose of Truth for Teams
Responding to Hunter’s claims on his podcast, Nightcap, Shannon Sharpe pointed out several flaws in the former Buffaloes player’s plans to play on both sides of the ball in the NFL, including a blunt reality for NFL general managers.
The eight-time Pro Bowler explained that if Hunter were to sustain an injury, a likely scenario given the high number of snaps he would be playing, it would be a significant setback for the team.
“Because guess what, he plays both sides of the ball, he gets hurt and misses a game, guess what I’ve got? I’m down two players,” Sharpe reasoned when questioning Hunter’s ambition.
Despite his apparent skepticism, the Hall of Famer did acknowledge that he respected the Heisman winner’s confidence in making such a statement.
“That’s part the battle; half the battle is believing that you can do it,” Sharpe agreed with his co-host, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson.

The last player to play both offense and defense in the NFL was Los Angeles Chargers fullback and defensive lineman Scott Matlock, who recorded more than 40 snaps on both sides of the ball.
