NCAA’s Leading Scorer Ta’Niya Latson Transfers to South Carolina

Latson, who averaged 25.2 points per game last year, helped lead Florida State to a 24-9 record and ACC tournament quarterfinal appearance. The Seminoles were awarded a No. 6 seed in the NCAA tournament, where they defeated No. 11 George Mason 94-59, behind 28 points from Latson.

They lost to No. 3 LSU 101-71 in the second round, in a game where Latson put up 30 points on 11-26 shooting.

The junior announced her transfer to Columbia on social media, captioned “Feelin’ cocky! 🐔❤️”

Latson hit the 30-point threshold eight times last year, including a 40-point career-high at Virginia Tech in January. She averaged 19.5 field goal attempts per game, shooting 45.1% from the court, and added another 3.7 three-point attempts per game, shooting 34.3% behind the arc. Latson also led the team in assists, with 4.6 per game, and steals, with 2.2 per game.

The 5’8” guard was awarded Second-Team All-American honors by the AP and USBWA for her work and received her third straight First-Team All-ACC appearance.

Now, the ball-centric Latson will try and help South Carolina get their trophy back. The Gamecocks are currently slated to return sophomores MiLaysia Fulwiley and Tessa Johnson and freshman Maddy McDaniel, but with superstar Te-Hina Paopao slated to enter the 2025 WNBA Draft and senior Bree Hall out of eligibility, Latson will have big shoes to fill.
