Former Villanova head coach Jay Wright is known for his calm sideline presence, impeccable style, and two NCAA national championships. But behind the scenes, there’s been a steady force supporting him throughout his entire career: his wife, Patricia Wright.

A Love Story That Started in College
Patricia and Jay have been together for more than four decades. Their love story began during their college years when Jay was a student-athlete at Bucknell University, and Patricia was a cheerleader at Villanova. The two met in 1983 and tied the knot soon after graduating, building a life together rooted in family, faith, and a shared passion for sports.
While Jay made Villanova basketball a national powerhouse during his 21-year tenure, Patricia was there every step of the way. She was courtside during Villanova’s emotional NCAA championship win in 2016 and again in 2018 when the Wildcats defeated Michigan to claim their second title under Jay’s leadership.
More than just a cheerleader during her college years, Patricia went on to study law after graduation. Though trained as a lawyer, her license is now inactive, as she chose to focus on raising their family and supporting her husband’s demanding coaching career.
The couple shares three children, and Patricia has remained the heart of the Wright household throughout their journey.
In 2017, Jay and Patricia were jointly awarded the Saint Augustine Medal by Villanova University. This prestigious honor is given to individuals who exemplify the spirit and teachings of Saint Augustine, including values of Truth, Unity, and Charity.
The university recognized both Jay’s coaching success and the couple’s dedication to community and family.
Their partnership is a testament to loyalty and mutual respect. Jay has frequently credited Patricia for being his foundation, especially during the intense highs and lows of a college basketball season. Her unwavering support played a major role in his success, both on the court and in life.

Since Jay’s retirement from coaching in 2022, he’s transitioned into a new role as a CBS Sports analyst. Through it all, Patricia has remained his biggest fan, continuing to be present at major events and milestones in his post-coaching career.
Whether it’s championship celebrations or life beyond the game, Patricia is the main hero behind Jay’s legendary journey, a devoted wife, mother, and true partner in every sense.
