UConn Star Sarah Strong Sets New Freshman NCAA Tournament Scoring Record

    UConn rising star Sarah Strong made history on Sunday by becoming the third-ever freshman with 20-plus points in both the Final Four and National Championship. She also set an NCAA Tournament freshman record by scoring more than 110 points in the Huskies’ six tournament games.

    Strong joins legends Maya Moore (2008) and Breanna Stewart (2013) as the only first-year players to secure 20-plus points in both the Final Four and the National Championship game. This outstanding performance led the Huskies to their 12th national title.

    Sarah Strong’s Record-Setting NCAA Tournament Outing

    Since arriving at UConn, freshman Sarah Strong has scored 633 points, joining Moore as the team’s only freshman to surpass the record of 600 points and 341 rebounds.

    The UConn 2025 championship victory showcases the team’s versatility and determination, further establishing it as the most successful program in women’s basketball history.

    During the regular season, Strong averaged 16.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, leading the nation in total win shares. She also added 3 assists per game.

    Her performance earned her the Big East Freshman of the Year title and a unanimous spot on the All-Big East First Team. She also received the WBCA Freshman of the Year award, underscoring her ability to impact games.

    Her historic record in the recent 2025 NCAA Tournament was nothing short of outstanding. She scored a team-high 22 points in the Final Four against UCLA, leading UConn to an 85-51 victory, sending the team to Sunday’s final, the largest margin in Final Four history.

    In the concluded national championship title run against South Carolina, she recorded a double-double with 24 points and 15 rebounds, powering UConn to an 82-59 points win and their first national title since 2016.
