As the Colorado Buffaloes prepare for the 2025 season, head coach Sanders has yet to decide on the team’s starting quarterback, with both Salter and Lewis making strong cases during spring training.
Since practices began on March 11, both quarterbacks have shown significant progress, impressing the coaching staff with their development.
Salter, brings a dynamic dual-threat presence while Lewis, a five-star freshman, has showcased his impressive pocket-passing accuracy and ability to make deep throws, proving why he was a top recruit.
Speaking to the media during the second week of spring practice, Sanders emphasized the leadership qualities he’s evaluating.
“We’re testing their leadership, their ability to handle pressure, and how they elevate the guys around them.” He added, “Both of them are showing me something—Salter’s got that experience and grit, while Lewis has that raw talent and poise. It’s a tough call, and I’m not rushing it.”
With the Black & Gold Spring Game approaching on April 19, Buffs fans are eagerly awaiting Sanders’ final decision.
With the competition heating up, Sanders faces a difficult decision as Salter’s experience and mobility contrast with Lewis’ raw talent and passing precision. Both quarterbacks have demonstrated the skills needed to lead the Buffaloes, making it clear that the battle for the starting job won’t be an easy call.
As the Black & Gold Spring Game approaches, all eyes remain on Sanders, who must determine which quarterback gives Colorado the best chance to build on last season’s success.
