Penn State’s James Franklin Rips Transfer Portal Window After Beau Pribula’s Struggles Made It Personal

The transfer portal window has certainly been a topic of conversation in college sports during this calendar year. For head football coach James Franklin and the Penn State Nittany Lions, the transfer portal has posed a problem or two.

James Franklin Upset With Transfer Portal

While speaking with On3 recently, Franklin ripped the transfer portal after former Penn State backup quarterback Beau Pribula struggled to decide between staying as a backup and leaving for a better situation.

“Beau (Pribula) did not want to leave…He had to choose…He was put in a really difficult position…I just don’t feel like any kid should be put in that situation.”

In this day and age, the transfer portal seems to be the king of the conversation. The portal has put players and teams in a very tough position, even though the players have a chance to find a better position for themselves at another school.

Players have only so much time to make a difficult decision, and schools can only help out so much.

    Penn State’s 2025 Aspirations

Despite some issues in the transfer portal, the Nittany Lions had a tremendous 2024 season.

Even though they did not win the Big Ten, they won 13 games and made it all the way to the Semifinals of the College Football Playoff.

In his 11 years as head coach at Penn State, Franklin has guided his team to 10 or more wins six times. This was the best season of his coaching career, and that is why the Nittany Lions can win in 2025, too.

Quarterback Drew Allar will be returning for another season after deciding to stay away from the NFL for one more year.

The Ohio native set career highs last season in completions (262), completion percentage (66.5%), passing yards (3,327), and rushing yards (302).

To win in the present day of college football, you likely need to have an experienced quarterback who knows how to perform in big situations under the lights.

Along with the help of star running backs Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton, this Penn State squad will have a great chance to win at a high level once again this Fall.
