Few players can energize a packed gym quite like Aaliyah Chavez. Just days before she was set to take center stage at the McDonald’s All-American Game in Brooklyn, Chavez gave fans another reason to be excited.
On Saturday, she stepped up to the 3-point line and delivered a shooting performance that had the crowd buzzing. With the spotlight already on her, she made sure to put on a show.

Aaliyah Chavez Shines Ahead of McDonald’s All-American Game
Wearing her West jersey for the prestigious event, Chavez joined fellow All-American Game participants in a 3-point contest to determine the finalists for Monday’s highly anticipated 3-Point Shootout at Barclays Center. The competition was fierce, but Chavez showed why she is considered one of the best pure shooters in high school basketball.

It was the latest in a series of headline-worthy moments for the Lubbock, Texas, native. Earlier in the week, Chavez made waves by announcing her college commitment live on ESPN.
Choosing from a powerhouse list of programs—including Texas, Texas Tech, LSU, UCLA and South Carolina—she ultimately decided on Oklahoma, setting the stage for what promises to be an electrifying collegiate career.
Once on the court for the 3-point contest, Chavez wasted no time showing off the smooth shooting stroke that earned her national recognition. Starting from the left wing, she drained all five shots from the first rack, immediately drawing cheers from the crowd.
Moving to the top of the arc, she stayed in rhythm, appearing to sink the first shot before missing the second. She quickly recovered, knocking down the final three attempts from that position. At the right wing, she missed her first two shots but responded by swishing the last three.
Chavez Advances to 3-Point Shootout Finals
With her strong performance, Chavez secured a spot in the McDonald’s 3-Point Shootout finals, which will air live on ESPN2 at 7:15 p.m. Eastern on Monday, March 31. While many would be satisfied with the achievement, the ever-competitive Chavez held herself to a higher standard.
She wrote on social media: “Wasn’t my best shooting performance but I made it to finals!!”
Her post on X, formerly Twitter, reflected her relentless drive for excellence. No stranger to long-range dominance, Chavez has consistently torched defenses throughout her high school career.

She made 639 3-pointers during her time at Lubbock Monterey High School, including 194 in her senior season alone. Her final-year scoring total of 1,451 points ranks 10th all-time for single-season scoring, further solidifying her legacy before she even steps onto a college court.
Now, anticipation builds for the main event. Chavez and her West squad will take on the East in the McDonald’s All-American Game, airing live on ESPN2 at 6:30 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday, April 1, from Barclays Center.
