Deion Sanders Teases Potential Move to Dallas to Reunite With Shedeur and Shilo

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is once again the subject of NFL speculation, with renewed chatter about a potential move to the Dallas Cowboys. The rumors have picked up steam as his sons, Shedeur and Shilo Sanders, prepare for the 2025 NFL Draft.

Talk of Sanders making the jump to the pros isn’t new, but the noise grew louder in January after another early playoff exit for the Cowboys. Head coach Mike McCarthy drew criticism following the loss, and although Dallas chose to promote offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, some believe Sanders could remain a candidate should the job open up again.

Deion Sanders Hints at Cowboys Coaching Future Amid NFL Draft Buzz

Speculation about Sanders coaching the Cowboys has gained momentum alongside the rising draft stock of his sons.

Though the idea still feels like a long shot, it’s generated buzz among fans and analysts alike—especially following reports that Dallas might be considering a future without quarterback Dak Prescott, potentially opening the door for Shedeur Sanders.

Appearing on Skip 1 on 1, Sanders addressed the rumors and offered perspective on his relationship with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. When asked how close he was to taking the job, Sanders said:

“He did and he still does… Jerry’s a dear friend. I love him to life.”

Sanders said the idea hadn’t occurred to him at first, but after talking with Jones, he began to consider it—though he made clear his motivation would have been family.

“The only way I would have done it, Skip, to be honest with you, is I knew guaranteed I had an opportunity to coach my sons,” he said.

Despite public perception of Jones’ influence within the organization, Sanders didn’t see that as an obstacle.

He described Jones as someone who “wants to win” and has always been upfront with him. Sanders also pushed back on criticism directed at Jones, arguing that players—past and present—see him in a much different light than analysts or media.

“You’ve never heard a former player or player [criticize Jones],” Sanders said. “Because he’s that good of a person.”

While the Cowboys ultimately chose continuity over a splashy hire, the idea of Sanders landing an NFL coaching gig isn’t entirely off the table. Whether it ever happens remains uncertain—but if it does, his comments suggest it would be under very specific terms.
