“I put the Georgia tape on of Jalon Walker and he’s an off-the-ball linebacker at 243 pounds, and my jaw dropped watching him run,” Mayock said.
“His twitch, his quickness, his speed, his change of direction. But what really intrigued me is on sub packages, they had him everywhere from the A gap over the center to all the way out wide as a pass rusher… He reminds me so much of Micah Parsons.”
Enter the Carolina Panthers, a team desperately searching for an identity on defense. The franchise has undergone massive changes in recent years, from coaching staff overhauls to roster shake-ups. Under new head coach Dave Canales and general manager Dan Morgan, the Panthers are prioritizing dynamic talent for their future.
Carolina’s biggest defensive issue? Stopping the run. Last season, they struggled mightily against ground-heavy offenses. However, adding a player like Walker could be the perfect solution.
Of course, the draft is unpredictable, and Walker could go off the board before Carolina’s pick. Some teams ahead of them, like the Chicago Bears or Washington Commanders, could view Walker as a must-have. If that happens, the Panthers might have to consider trading up to secure their guy.
Other Potential NFC South Landing Spots
While the Panthers seem like an ideal fit, other NFC South teams could also be in play:
