Transfer Portal Landing Spots for Izela Arenas

Following the No. 7 seed Louisville Cardinals’ Secon Round NCAA Tournament loss, freshman guard Izela Arenas announced that she will enter the transfer portal.

    USC Trojans

With Arenas’ five-star prospect brother, Alijah, committing to the Trojans, she could quickly follow suit. USC star JuJu Watkins is likely to miss at least part of the 2025 season with an ACL tear, and Talia von Oelhoffen’s eligibility expiring. Arenas could see some playing time, but on a young Trojan backcourt, minutes will be hard to come by.

    Arizona Wildcats

Arenas could head to her father’s alma mater, where she received an offer in Aug. 2023. In the ninth year under Adia Barnes, the Wildcats took a step back, missing the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2019.

Arizona’s backcourt is also stacked, which could be a deterring factor for Arenas.

    Oregon Ducks

The only place Arenas visited other than Louisville in Sept. 2023 was Eugene, Oregon. The Ducks made the second round of the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2021 in their Big Ten debut, in no small part due to elite play by Deja Kelly and Peyton Scott, who are fifth and sixth-year seniors, respectively.

With Nani Falatea heading into her redshirt senior year next year, a big gap could be opened for Arenas if she plays the waiting game in the Pacific Northwest.

    California Golden Bears

Arenas received an offer from head coach Charmin Smith and the close-to-home Golden Bears as a high schooler.

Cal is losing sixth-year senior and leading scorer guard Ioanna Krimili this offseason and will have a big hole to fill in the backcourt.

    Purdue Boilermakers

The Boilermakers’ leading scorer, fifth-year senior Destini Lombard, averaged only 9.9 points per game in 2024. With big holes to fill after a disappointing season that saw Purdue finish 3-15 in conference play, Arenas could find some playing time with a team that sent her an offer letter in 2023.
