The Athletic Drops Bombshell on Troy Taylor

Andrew Luck, the former NFL star with the Indianapolis Colts, became the Cardinals’ manager in November. He had previously defended Taylor earlier in the week but then released the following statement after The Athletic reported Taylor’s firing.

“Since beginning my role as General Manager, I have been thoroughly assessing the entire Stanford football program,” Luck said. “It has been clear that certain aspects of the program need change. Additionally, in recent days, there has been significant attention to Stanford investigations in previous years related to Coach Taylor.

“After continued consideration, it is evident to me that our program needs a reset. In consultation with university leadership, I no longer believe that Coach Taylor is the right coach to lead our football program.”

According to On3, Taylor’s behavior had been “inconsistent with Stanford’s standards,” and he had also received a warning letter. On3 also reported that Taylor had bullied and belittled female staffers and did not make the program welcoming to female employees.

Taylor was also given financial penalties and workplace training for his conduct before the firing.

Taylor signed the warning letter in Feb. 2024 after the first investigation. A second investigation was launched in June and July 2023.

He said he willingly “complied with the investigations, accepted the recommendations that came out of them, and used them as a learning opportunity to grow in leadership and how I interact with others.”

Luck also commented on what would happen now that Taylor is gone and the search for a new head coach begins.

He has said, “An acting head coach may be set in place for 2025.”

Stanford recently held its Pro Day on March 19, and many programs, like the Cardinals, are in spring practices.
