The Florida Gators started the 2024 college football season as the laughingstock of the SEC. In five games without five-star freshman DJ Lagway as their starter, the Gators were 2-3. However, with Lagway as a starter, the Gators improved significantly, going 6-1 in those games.
Lagway’s success has sparked much-needed optimism from Gator Fans and SEC analysts, with many believing Florida is poised for a big 2025 season.

Florida and Lagway Flying Under the Radar Heading into 2025
Currently, the Gators’ win total is set at 6.5. If the Gators win over six games in 2025, at least according to Vegas, it’d be a success of the season, but it would appear that some college football analysts believe the Gators can win a lot more than six games.
On the “Ruffino and Joe Show,” Blake and Joe Deleone debated just how good Lagway can be in 2025. Deleon pointed out that this playing time as a freshman in 204 will set him up to learn from his mistakes and make major improvements in 2025. Deleone said that Lagway could put up “insane” numbers next season.
Ruffino voiced his doubts about Lagway regarding his turnovers in 2024 and the fact that he has not thrown in spring practice so far, but he also said that the Gators are a much better team overall than people think and that they can win a lot of SEC games next season.
While it’s not definitive that Lagway will improve drastically in 2025, he has all the talent and tools necessary to be the best quarterback in the SEC and college football next season.
