Hannah Hidalgo Divulges Why She Came to Play At Notre Dame

In the newest episode of Next Generation, junior point guard Hannah Hidalgo chatted about why she decided to come to Notre Dame.

“Notre Dame checked off most of the boxes of exactly what I want…this is a university for guards.”

Simply put, Hidalgo is one of the best players in the entire country. Whether you judge her as an offensive or defensive player, she can do everything at a very high level.

The All-American and 2025 ACC Player of the Year has dominated both ends of the court as long as she has played for the Irish. In back-to-back seasons, she has averaged at least 22.0 points per game and at least 5.0 rebounds per game.

A two-time ACC Defensive Player of the Year, Hidalgo has averaged at least 3.5 steals per game over the last two seasons. There might not be a more complete player in the game at her position.

Other Legendary Notre Dame Point Guards

While Hidalgo is one of the school’s legendary point guards, those other legendary point guards cannot be forgotten. It doesn’t get much better than a player like Skylar Diggins-Smith, who is one of the WNBA’s brightest stars.

The six-time All-Star was a two-time All-American and three-time Big East Player of the Year during her time in South Bend. Arike Ogunbowale is another legendary name that helped the Irish win a national title back in 2018.

Now a four-time All-Star in the WNBA, the former All-American hasn’t forgotten her days of greatness early on at Notre Dame. Fans remember a guard like Kayla McBride, who earned All-American and All-Big East honors during her star-studded career.
