Florida QB DJ Lagway’s Injury Sparks Speculation Following Billy Napier’s Remarks

Florida Gators quarterback, DJ Lagway was injured back in November during a game against the Georgia Bulldogs. Lagway sustained a serious hamstring injury that caused him to get carted off the field and miss the rest of that contest, and the next game.

This couldn’t have come at a worst time for Lagway and the Florida offense as a whole.

DJ Lagway’s Injury Sparks Speculation Following Billy Napier’s Remarks

Lagway took over back on October 12th when their senior starting quarterback, Graham Mertz, tore his ACL. After seven starts with the team in 2024, Lagway took them to a 6-1 record, and made them eligible for a bowl game.

When Gators head coach, Billy Napier, spoke with the media, he was asked about the injury sustained by Lagway.

“Some lower body and some shoulder,” Napier answered. “Our intentions here are to be very smart.”

“I do think he’ll be limited in throwing activities, but he’ll participate in all practices otherwise,” Napier continued. “We’ve done a lot of homework with the things he went through as a player, but he was an absolute warrior and a great competitor that showed toughness.”

Napier went on to add that while Lagway will be able to do quite a bit, he will certainly be a little bit “limited.” Lagway was able to come back last season and pick up where he left off. However, to say he was 100% healthy in doing so is certainly not the case.

By the end of his first true freshman season, Lagway had played in 12 games but started seven of them. Out of his seven starts, he guided Florida to six wins and helped them become eligible for a bowl game at the end of the campaign. He did this when everyone thought all hope was lost following Mertz’s injury.

Lagway completed 115 passes on 192 attempts, which included throwing for 1,915 yards in the process. He also threw for 12 touchdowns but did counter that by throwing nine picks.

Still, through all of it, he wound up being a great quarterback for Florida, and he played remarkably in what was only his freshman year.

With how well Florida played as a whole with Lagway at the quarterback position, it’s worth keeping an eye on how he progresses.
