During his tenure at Tennessee State, George guided the program to significant success. In the most recent season, he led the team to the FCS playoffs and secured a share of the OVC-Big South title, marking Tennessee State’s first conference championship in football since 1999.
George’s selection followed a competitive search in which he was one of three finalists for the role. Derek van der Merwe highlighted George’s broad experience.
“Today, we add another transformative leader to this campus in Eddie George. Our students are getting someone who has chased success in sports, art, business, and leadership. As our head football coach, he will pursue excellence in all aspects of competition in the arena. More importantly, beyond the arena, he will exemplify what excellence looks like in the classroom, in life, in business, and in relationships with people.”
Excited to take on his new role, George shared.
“I am truly excited to be the head coach at Bowling Green State University… We are eager to immerse ourselves in the community and help build this program to the greatness it deserves.”
