Michael Irvin Wants To See Travis Hunter Displaying His Two-Way Play in the NFL

Travis Hunter capped off a sensational season by securing the prestigious Heisman Trophy. With his sights now set on the 2025 NFL Draft, Hunter finds himself in a heated race for the top pick alongside quarterbacks Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward.

However, Hall-of-Famer Michael Irvin has stepped in with some pivotal advice that could shape Hunter’s future in the league.

“And if I’m Travis Hunter, all jokes aside, I’m putting it out right now,” Irvin said.If you’re not letting me play both ways, don’t draft me. I fully intend on playing both ways in the National Football League. I mean, I get to the place where I say, come on, man. We got how many gyms? You said you talked to 13.”

“And these guys think you know more about this kid that you never met,” he added. You just watched on film. You already made up your mind that he’s going to play on one side. And you gave him the side, I think he should be a corner. Because ball control and being able to attack the ball from a cornerback position is much more valuable than a receiver position.”

Irvin emphasized that Hunter should embrace his rare versatility and not be boxed into a single position. He even suggested that Hunter make it a non-negotiable term in any contract discussions with NFL teams, ensuring he can showcase his talents on both sides of the ball.

“Because I can’t find corners that can do it,” he stated.OK, then that means you can’t stop me from playing corner. But I can also play wide receiver. I’m not letting them dictate my story. I’m telling you, no. I’m playing both ways.”

Travis Kelce Shows Concern for Hunter

Travis Kelce is fully on board with Travis Hunter embracing a two-way role in the NFL, but he is not without concerns.

On a recent episode of his podcast New Heights, which he co-hosts with his brother and former Eagles center Jason Kelce, the Chiefs star shared his thoughts on the challenges of playing offense and defense at the highest level.

While Kelce admires Hunter’s ability to dominate on both sides of the ball, he believes the young prospect will eventually need to pick a primary position. He also expressed concern over the toll it could take on Hunter’s body.

“They’ll have to scheme up around him getting too exhausted… Like they’d really have to weigh that into their play-calling both offensively and defensively,” Kelce said. “You can’t just go man and expect Travis to run all around the field with a guy like Tyreek Hill. As an offensive coordinator, I’m sending him on a go every play, and eventually, the wheels are going to get at least a little worn out.”
