Earlier in the week, photos and videos began emerging from the Alabama Crimson Tide’s spring practices. In one video, all three quarterbacks on the Crimson Tide roster could be seen performing some routine handoff plays to various running backs.
The quarterbacks seen in the clip are Ty Simpson, Keelon Russell, and Austin Mack, all of whom are expected to compete for the starting role next season. This comes after 2024 campaign starting quarterback Jalen Milroe declared for the 2025 NFL Draft.

The popular Crimson Tide and college football fan account ‘@NextRoundLive’ posted the clip on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“Alabama’s quarterback’s Ty Simpson (#15) Keelon Russell (#12) and Austin Mack (#10) at spring practice,” the post was captioned.

With the expected departure of Milroe, it appears as though one of the three individuals in the video will be the starting QB of the iconic Alabama school next year. Though all three are promising quarterback talents, none of them have truly played too much meaningful football at the college level.
Who Will Start At QB For The Alabama Crimson Tide Next Year?
At this time, it is unclear who will definitively start at quarterback for the Crimson Tide next year. Although some analysts believe that it is Simpson’s job to lose, likely in large part due to his advanced age over Russell and Mack, it is pure speculation as of this moment.
Last season, Simpson only completed 25 pass attempts on the year, something that was a college football career high for him. He finished the campaign, completing 14 of his 25 pass attempts for 167 passing yards, zero passing touchdowns, and zero interceptions. In addition, he carried the ball eight times for 44 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.
Meanwhile, Russell is a high school recruit from Duncanville, Texas. He played his high school football at Duncanville High School and was ranked No. 2 in the 2025 ESPN 300 recruiting database. He had offers from other college football powerhouses, including the Oregon Ducks, the Florida Gators, and the Ole Miss Rebels, amongst others.

Finally, Mack was a freshman this past year and saw limited game time for the Crimson Tide. He completed two of his three pass attempts on the campaign for 39 passing yards and a passing touchdown.
