One of the top players in the country announced her commitment on Sat., March 1, and the rich just got richer.
6’1″ combo guard Agot Makeer, originally from Canada is heading south, as she’s looking to be the next in an elite line of guards for the defending National Champions.

Elite Combo Guard Agot Makeer Commits to Dawn Staley, South Carolina
It’s no surprise to see powerhouses like the South Carolina Gamecocks and UConn Huskies in anyone’s top 3, as the two teams have gone head-to-head for plenty of high-profile recruits in the past.
This time, it’s the Gamecocks who came out on top, as Dawn Staley’s squad secured Agot Makeer’s commitment over the Huskies and Michigan State Spartans.
The recruitment went down to the wire, with sources telling College Sports Network that the Gamecocks didn’t receive word from Makeer that she would announce in their favor until the morning of her public pledge.

While it’s not surprising to see UConn and South Carolina in the final three, Michigan State did a great job in Makeer’s recruitment, dating back to when the Spartans were the first team to offer in Jan. 2023.
Still, Staley’s relentless pursuit and the ability to play for a National Title contender proved too much to overcome, as the recent Montverde Academy transfer pledged to the Gamecocks.
What Does Agot Makeer’s Commitment Mean for the Gamecocks?
Perhaps Makeer’s best trait is her versatility. At 6’1″, she’s an elite ball-handler, able to run her offense with ease. Since moving to Montverde though, she’s played more off the ball for an elite offense.
While her overall numbers have dipped since she stopped being the No. 1 offensive option after the transfer, it has showcased her holistic game. She’s a physical defender, able to guard the 1, 2, or even 3 spots, as she’s played some minutes at small forward at Montverde.
That fits well with what the Gamecocks like to do, as their depth is at its best when players are able to play multiple positions at a high level.

Compared to other top recruits, Makeer’s not quite as polished, but the upside is elite. She’s a plus rebounder for a guard, and can get hot from 3-point range, as she shot 34% for Canada’s U-17 team.
Even though she’s not a finished product, her defensive effort should help her get in the good graces of Staley, who is not reluctant to play freshmen, as long as their work-rate on both ends of the floor is satisfactory.
She’ll join a South Carolina squad that loses senior Te-Hina Paopao, but is an otherwise veteran group at the guard position and could give the Gamecocks an outside scoring threat that they’ll need next season.
While the Gamecocks are currently locked in a battle for the SEC Regular Season Title, the future is also looking bright as Staley and company continue to reload. Makeer joins 5-star wing Ayla McDowell in South Carolina’s 2025 class. The Gamecocks are also in the running for No. 1 overall recruit Aaliyah Chavez, though it looks like they could be on the outside looking in for her commitment.
