Dillon Gabriel Comps Himself to Tua Tagovailoa, Brock Purdy, Says He’s ‘Not For Everybody’

The reigning Big Ten MVP looks poised to make his mark in the NFL regardless of his size.

Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel is one of the more exciting quarterback prospects in the pre-draft process.

Gabriel made it a point at the NFL Combine on Friday to chat about his opinion of certain professional comparisons that people around the league have given him.

Dillon Gabriel’s Take On His Comps

Here is what the FBS record holder had to say in front of the media in Indianapolis about the idea of today’s NFL quarterback when it comes to experience against youth:

Then, he was later asked about the stigma around shorter quarterbacks in the NFL and chatted about his own situation.

Gabriel currently stands at 5’11” and weighs just over 200 pounds, but it doesn’t appear that any of his measurements have affected him in his playing career one bit.

That also shows how his experience playing big-time ball for three different schools in six years helped him a lot.

Can Gabriel Find Success In the NFL?

    The short answer is yes.

If Gabriel can find himself in the right situation with the right team, he could have a great NFL career. His time in college is proof of that. When he started at UCF, he became an All-AAC performer before attending Oklahoma and becoming the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. Of course, he later became the Big Ten Most Valuable Player while playing for Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks.

The Hawaii native is the FBS’s all-time leader in career touchdown passes (156), career touchdowns responsible for (190), and career points responsible for (1,136). He has six seasons of starting experience and could very well be a great starter almost immediately if the right team decides to take a chance on him.

Perhaps quarterback-needy teams in the Giants and Raiders might not be afraid to have a short, experienced quarterback, such as the Dolphins with Tua Tagovailoa or the 49ers with Brock Purdy.
