Ohio State Head Coach Ryan Day will have to make a big decision about the next Ohio State QB before the 2025 season begins. Will Howard’s departure to the NFL has left a big void in the QB room, which Day thinks he could fill very soon.
Some of the most probable options already available in the locker room are Julian Sayin, Lincoln Kienholz, and Tavien St. Clair.

Former Ohio State Star Raves About Julian Sayin
The Ohio State Buckeyes achieved college football’s ultimate prize by hoisting the College Football Playoff National Championship trophy after securing the program’s ninth national title.
Now, the doors have opened for a complete revamp after the majority of the players announced they would be leaving for the NFL. Questions arise about the team’s QB1, a position battle between several top-tier candidates.
According to Denzel Burke, a former Ohio State cornerback in the midst of the NFL Draft process, Julian Sayin could be next in line.
“I think Julian ‘that guy,’ to be honest with you,” Burke confidently said. “Julian’s a great player, great zip on the ball, great pocket presence. He’s going to have a good career,” Burke told Andy Backstrom, per The Spun.
“A couple practices in, when he first got here—just the way he’s throwing the ball, how he’s to himself, how he’s all about ball—I could just tell,” he added.
Still, Coach Day is not worried about Ohio State’s future. While speaking to “The Fan” 97.1, a sports radio station in Columbus, Ohio, the coach mentioned that the players will compete with each other to earn the spot, and the offseason is the perfect time to showcase their talents.

“We have some good quarterbacks in the system, and—you know—I shared with all of them that—you know—now, this was the week leading up to the national championship game that you know you had an opportunity to watch. And so you got to really utilize that because that’s exactly what we’re looking for in a leader here at quarterback,” Day said per 247 Sports.
The Buckeyes wrapped up the 2024 season with a 14-2 record and a national title—not too shabby for any team. But the pursuit for a second straight tile has already begun, and the QB battle in Columbus will fuel those dreams.
