Savion Williams Asked To Do RB Drills at 2025 NFL Combine: 5 Fits for the TCU WR/RB

TCU wide receiver Savion Williams could test as a running back at the NFL Combine. Here's what that means for his draft stock and who might look to target him.

Former TCU Horned Frog Savion Williams is one of the top wide receiver prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft, but according to ESPN’s draft analyst, Jordan Reid, Williams has been asked to test at running back during the NFL Combine.

Read on to find out what this means for Williams as a prospect and which NFL teams would find a role for the versatile player.

Savion Williams Set To Do Both RB and WR Drills at NFL Combine

Williams racked up 60 catches for 611 yards and six TDs in his final year with the Horned Frogs in 2024. While Williams was dangerous in the passing game, TCU also let the Texas native show what he could do on the ground.

On just 51 carries, Williams had 322 yards and six TDs on the ground, averaging 6.5 yards per carry. With his success as a runner, it’s clear that NFL scouts want to see what Williams can do during running back drills at the NFL Combine.

If Williams does end up testing as an RB, it could drastically change his draft stock. He could become a highly touted versatile player who could change an NFL team’s offense as both a receiver and a runner.

While not every NFL team would be able to utilize Williams’s versatility, there are a few where he’d be the perfect fit.

5 Potential NFL Fits for Williams

    1) San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers will likely trade Deebo Samuel this offseason, so why not bring in Savion Williams, who has a similar rushing upside to Deebo? If there’s a coach in the league who could figure out how to use someone with Williams’s skill set as a receiver and a runner, it’d be Kyle Shanahan.

    2) Denver Broncos

In an earlier interview this offseason, Sean Payton said that the Broncos need to bring in a “Joker” or a player who can provide versatility to their offense. I could see Savion Williams filling that Joker role for the Broncos and helping out the Denver offense in all sorts of ways.

    3) Washington Commanders

In a college-style offense like Kliff Kingsbury’s, I think Williams could seamlessly transition from TCU to Washington. I would expect Kliff to use Williams in a very similar way to which he was used at TCU. The Commanders need help in both the running and passing game, so Williams could potentially help them in both those spots.

    4) Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys need help in the running game badly, and if Williams tests well enough, I could see them taking him as a primary runner in their offense. Williams could churn out rushing yards for the Cowboys and be a reliable option for Dak Prescott on third downs.

    5) Los Angeles Rams

I would love to see what Sean McVay would do with Williams’ versatility if he fell to the Rams.

It sounds like Cooper Kupp is on his way out the door in Los Angeles, so Williams could fill that slot role and be used in the running game, which would be a big boost for the Rams’ offense.
