A new era of college football is taking shape in Tuscaloosa under the leadership of Kalen DeBoer in 2025. The former Washington Huskies head coach took over the program in 2024 after Nick Saban stepped down, ending his 17 years at Bama. DeBoer had a huge responsibility to fill Saban’s shoes and maintain the program’s standards.
Unfortunately, his first season was viewed as a failure despite his 9-4 record. Even though critics have been throwing dirt at DeBoer, Alabama safety Malachi Moore claims the program is undergoing a major revamp, and the 2025 season will see a new beginning.
Malachi Moore Gives a Big Shoutout to Kalen DeBoer at 2025 NFL Combine
This year’s Combine workouts are taking place at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis from Feb. 27 to March 2. Several prospects have already had media interactions where they spoke about their college and preparations for the drills.
Alabama Safety Malachi Moore, who was there at the event, utilized this opportunity to heap praise on DeBoer.
“I can say it now, but we knew it was going to be hard to win a national championship, um, first year after a coach has changed, especially after Coach Saban has been there for 17 years, and so everything was kind of new to everybody,” Moore said to the reporters on Thursday.
“And you know, we had to go through growing pains and go through learning curves, but now that coach DeBoer has a season under his belt, and he got the right staff around him, and he’s being able to recruit his players and the things of that nature, I feel like Alabama is going to be in a great position going forward with coach DeBoer. He’s just as competitive and motivated to win and hates to lose like Coach Saban.”
Moore continued, “He just has a different way of going about it, but they are both like-minded in that aspect, and I got tremendous respect for Coach DeBoer for even taking a job at the University of Alabama.
“I told him that the first time we ever met because a lot of people don’t want to come in after the greatest football coach of all time come in, and they don’t want to come in and fill those shoes, and it’s a hard and difficult task. But for him to be man enough to step up and take that challenge, it says a lot about him.”
