Former Florida Gators defensive back Keanu Neal, who recently retired from the NFL, is reportedly looking for an on-field coaching role with his alma mater. Florida head coach Billy Napier and Neal reportedly have a mutual interest in bringing the veteran safety back to Gainesville in an analyst position.

Coaching Could Be the Next Chapter in Keanu Neal’s Career
After eight seasons in the NFL, Neal officially announced his retirement from professional football. Drafted 17th overall by the Atlanta Falcons in 2016, he played for four teams, including Atlanta, the Dallas Cowboys, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
His career spanned 89 games, with 69 starts, and he recorded 523 tackles, four interceptions, and eight forced fumbles.
But according to some, Neal might be headed back to the “Swamp.”

According to reports, head coach Billy Napier is interested in bringing Neal on board as an on-field analyst.
While nothing is finalized, this potential move could be big for the Gators’ coaching staff, as well as player performance. Neal’s experience and knowledge could be a gold mine for the young defensive backs at Florida.
Napier has been criticized heavily recently for his offensive play-calling. He is under tons of pressure to improve in 2025, while other SEC teams continue to find postseason success in the form of College Football Playoff berths.
While he remains committed to leading the offense, strengthening his defensive coaching staff is what the team needs the most right now. Bringing in a former Gator and NFL veteran like Neal might be a step in the right direction.

For Neal, this opportunity would mark a full-circle moment. Returning to the school where he made a name for himself, he could now help the next generation of Gators develop their skills.
If the deal materializes, Neal’s impact could extend beyond the field as he begins a new chapter in his football journey.
