With all the hype surrounding Arch Manning, somehow this summer, Quinn Ewers was the forgotten man in Austin. With Ewers locked in as the starter this season, it’s safe to say that he’ll make sure everyone remembers his name.
Quinn Ewers: The Forgotten Longhorn
It’s safe to say that Ewers was absolutely one of the most prized recruits coming out of high school. The former five-star recruit was the number one player in his class, trumping even reigning Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams.
We’ve all seen how dominant Williams has been so far in his college career, so it needs be reminded that Ewers was seen and projected to have the same, if not more, talent.
Ewers spent his 2021 season at Ohio State before transferring to Texas for the 2022 season. Since the transfer, it’s been clear that Ewers is the guy for the Longhorns, even following Manning’s commitment to Texas this past recruiting class.

Ewers Shows Promise in 2022
Starting 10 games a season ago, Ewers showed a lot of hope in 2022. Ewers helped lead the team to a solid 8-5 record and it could be said that their game against Alabama might have gone the other way had he not been injured during the contest.
Through 10 games, Ewers threw for 2,177 yards and 15 touchdowns against six interceptions.
Though he was inconsistent at times, Ewers showed plenty of flashes of an elite quarterback in college football. This past season, Ewers was able to fit the ball into tight windows and make throws from almost every angle, and make them look easy.
Why Ewers Will Explode in 2023
Heading into 2023, with the starting job in hand, Ewers has the pedigree and talent to take over this fall. He just needs to put everything together.
This offseason, Texas added AD Mitchell from Georgia, on top of the fact that Isaiah Neyor returns from injury. Essentially, Ewers is set up for success with a wealth of weapons at receiver.
Now that Ewers has some experience and is stepping into his second year as the guy, the expectations are for him to break out. Ewers has a phenomenal arm, he can extend plays and make throws from every angle.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and his coaching staff have done a great job in the past, and those expectations should be reached as they’ll certainly be able to get the most out of Ewers.
