Sometimes, you must do whatever it takes to recruit the best talent in college athletics, even if that means getting help from a different head coach. That is the approach Brian Kelly is taking with two-sport star Ahman Hudson.

Brian Kelly, Matt McMahon Form a 2-Headed Recruiting Monster
Hudson, America’s No. 1 tight end, visited Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in January. He may be interested in joining Kelly’s squad next season.
However, according to insider Zach Nagy, he was not the only LSU head coach who showed up during the visit. Men’s head basketball coach Matt McMahon was also looking to gauge Hudson’s interest in the Tigers basketball program.

Hudson was a two-sport athlete in high school. Now, he has a chance to stay in his home state and play for LSU. Especially in the football program, Hudson could have a great opportunity to flourish as a focal point on LSU’s offense in the future.
Kelly’s strong history of working with great college tight ends is proof of that.
Kelly’s History Working With Tight Ends
After spending a long time at the University of Notre Dame (2010-2021) before his tenure at LSU in 2022, Kelly coached plenty of quality tight ends in South Bend. Tyler Eifert, Kyle Rudolph, Michael Mayer, Troy Niklas, Ben Koyack, Durham Smythe, Alize Mack, Cole Kmet, and Tommy Tremble were all drafted to the NFL after playing for Kelly.
Brent Celek even played for Kelly at the University of Cincinnati before he went to play for the Philadelphia Eagles. In recent years, while at LSU, Kelly also helped prepare star tight end Mason Taylor for his NFL future.

So, Hudson may want to examine Kelly’s history with tight ends before he decides where he wants to play college football. Of course, it can’t hurt the school to have a basketball coach who also wants him to play his sport.
Time will certainly tell when Hudson and his family reach a decision.
One thing is for sure: the Tigers are interested in keeping the dual-threat athlete in Louisiana for the foreseeable future.
