CFB Analyst Sees Carson Beck Flourishing in Miami Offense

College football analyst J.D. PicKell discusses new Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck.

In early January 2025, former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck announced that he would be joining the Miami Hurricanes program via the transfer portal. As a result, earlier in the week, college football analyst J.D. PicKell discussed what he thought the Hurricanes’ offense could potentially look like next season.

    J.D. PicKell’s Carson Beck Prediction

This offseason, the Hurricanes are widely expected to lose their starting quarterback from this year, Cam Ward, to the NFL via the 2025 draft. At this time, Ward is expected to be one of the top two quarterbacks selected, alongside Colorado Buffaloes Shedeur Sanders, later this April.

PicKell made clear his belief that Beck would succeed in the Hurricanes offense. The video in full was released on the “On3Sports” YouTube channel.

“They [Miami Hurricanes] went out and got Carson Beck for a reason. And contrary to what maybe Twitter would tell you, Carson Beck is still a really freaking good quarterback.

“I don’t expect them to have some massive drop-off in terms of points per game. I don’t expect them to be less exciting to watch,” PicKell highlighted.

Prior to committing to the Hurricanes in early 2025, Beck spent the past four seasons with the Bulldogs program.

Carson Beck, Miami Hurricanes 2025 Outlook

Beck and the Hurricanes will both look to improve off what could be considered a slightly down season by their standards.

Though the Hurricanes finished with a strong 10-3 record and went 6-2 against fellow ACC opponents, the program did not qualify for the College Football Playoff this past campaign. Meanwhile, Beck struggled with inconsistent play at times and suffered a season-ending injury in the SEC Championship Game against Texas.

On the year, Beck had 3,485 passing yards, 28 touchdown passes, 12 interceptions, and a completion percentage of 64.7%. While still impressive numbers, Beck’s passing yards were down more than 400 yards, his completion percentage was down by 7.7%, and his interception tally rose by six from the campaign prior.

In late December 2024, Beck announced that he would be declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft. At the time, many analysts and insiders outlined how Beck’s draft stock had fallen this year. However, in early January 2025, he announced his intent to enter the transfer portal, ultimately deciding on the Hurricanes as his next team.

As is evident, Beck has a lot to prove this year if he wants to build his draft stock for the 2026 NFL Draft, something PicKell clearly thinks is possible while playing in the Hurricanes’ offense.
