Luke Metz Reveals Why He Chose Alabama Over Other Top Schools

Despite boasting offers from other top programs, such as Georgia, Ole Miss, Michigan, and Oklahoma, Metz chose the Crimson Tide nation. During an interview with Alabama safety Bray Hubbard, Metz shared the reason behind his decision.

“Alabama was just the best fit for me, especially since I’ve been rooting for Alabama since I was a little kid. This is just where home is,” Metz said.

Metz committed to the program in March 2024. He was primarily recruited by defensive coordinator Kane Wommack. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound freshman ranks 386th in the nation, 42nd in his position (linebacker), and 51st in his state, Georgia, according to On3.

Metz made two official visits on top of several unofficial visits to Tuscaloosa before signing with the program.

Everything To Know Alabama Freshman Luke Metz

Alabama’s linebacker room has added another rising star in Metz. He was a force on the field for Mill Creek High School. As a senior, he racked up 79 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss and six sacks, along with two forced fumbles and an interception. His performance earned him all-region and all-county honors in 2023.

Rivals placed Metz at No. 82 in the Rivals100, naming him the No. 2 inside linebacker and the No. 10 overall player in Georgia. He also received top-40 and top-50 rankings as an inside linebacker on the 247Composite and On3 Consensus, while ESPN ranked him as the No. 13 inside linebacker and a top-60 player from Georgia.

According to 247Sports’ director of ccouting Andrew Ivins, Metz is an “instinctive off-ball linebacker prospect that can sift through traffic and make stops in the hole.”

“Should be viewed as a high-floor, second-level defender with three-down capabilities based on the game tape. Likely to add plenty of value on special teams at the school of his choice,” Ivins wrote about him last year.

In the 2024-25 season with Mill Creek, according to MaxPreps, Metz had 57 solo tackles and 10.0 tackles for loss on top of 6.0 sacks and seven hurries.
