‘I Wanna See These Kids Soar’ — NFL Legend Deion Sanders Raves About His Beautiful Journey That Inspires Him To Keep Going

Deion Sanders is using his NFL experience to reshape Colorado football, mentoring players and recruiting future stars. Can Coach Prime lead the Buffs to glory?

1989 was the year Deion Sanders was drafted into the NFL, and from his very first game, where he returned a punt 68 yards for a score, he brought charisma and stardom to the league.

Now, more than three decades later, Coach Prime is on the sidelines of college football, mentoring his sons and taking the Colorado Buffaloes from the depths of mediocrity to being hopefuls for championship contention.

NFL Legend Deion Sanders on Gleaning From His Experience for Recruitment

After spending a short stint at Jackson State, Sanders took the Buffs to a 9-4 record and a bowl game appearance in his second season, thanks in part to his experience.

Sanders, with his characteristic contagious energy, talked about his Buff players, who are with the team and who might join the program in the future, and mentioned his approach to recruitment on the “Fully Loaded” podcast on Feb. 10.

“I wanna see these kids soar,” Sanders said. “All the mistakes that I made in life I’m able to give them the game on this. … I’ve sat in all three seats. I’ve been the player that’s being recruited. I’ve been the parent sitting beside the player that’s being recruited. And now I’m the coach that’s recruiting you.

“… So I know what you’re thinking and what you’re thinking, and I know what he’s thinking. It’s real, so I know where we at. So I can answer all three questions because I’ve sat in every seat.”

Sanders also referred to his sons, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who is expected to be selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and safety Shilo Sanders, projected as a late-round pick.

“Now I’m in the spiritual seat too because I know what you want for your baby,” Sanders said. “I got that cause I’m that guy too. So I love what I do, I really do.”

Prime Time was among the most influential athletes, and under his tutelage, the Buffs’ hopes of becoming a championship contender have been rejuvenated.

Sanders’ expectations for the 2025 season with the program are reflected in his recruitment of highly regarded quarterback prospect Julian Lewis, who is expected to be one of the signal-callers to step into Shedeur Sanders’ shoes when he leaves for the NFL.
