Iowa State’s Rocco Becht Gears Up for Dublin Showdown Against Kansas State

This season opener, scheduled for Aug. 23, will be part of the famous Aer Lingus College Football Classic, which features teams playing in the “Emerald Isle.”

After leading the Cyclones to a successful 2024 season, including an outstanding victory over the Miami Hurricanes in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, Becht has emerged as a key element of Iowa State’s offense. His leadership and aggressive playstyle have made him one of the Big 12’s most entertaining quarterbacks, and he’s looking to repeat the success.

Becht was in attendance at a recent basketball game between his Cyclones and the Kansas State Wildcats when he was asked to pump up the crowd.

“See you in Ireland!” he screamed to the fans.

This game is more than just another game for Cyclones and WIldcats fans; it is an opportunity for the Cyclones to win a statement rivalry game on a global level.

Iowa State and Kansas State have an extended legacy of rivalry in the Big 12. With both teams expected to make a run at the title, this season opener in Dublin could be an early test.

Historically, the Cyclones have led the series 54-50-4. Since 2000, though, Kansas State has dominated. In that stretch, they lead the Cyclones 17-8. Besides three games held in Kansas City, Mo., between 2008-10, this will be the first “Farmageddon” game not held in Manhattan, Kan., or Ames, Iowa.

A victory in Ireland would uphold Iowa State’s position as a major Big 12 contender. Meanwhile, Kansas State will be looking for redemption and a big win to kick off the season.

Hosting this game in Ireland shows college football’s ever-expanding global popularity. The Aer Lingus College Football Classic has transformed into an annual event showcasing some of the sport’s most notable teams.
