John Michael Gyllenborg NFL Draft Outlook

John Michael Gyllenborg possesses rare athleticism and pass catching ability for a tight end. He is an advanced route runner both down the field and in the intermediate part of the field.

Gyllenborg did well against anyone who was put in front of him and showed high-level instincts as a separator. He does well attacking the blind spots of defenders in coverage and creates leverage with his suddenness. He is a fluid, twitchy athlete with a 6’5″ body, making him a matchup nightmare.

MORE: Harold Fannin Jr. Scouting Report

Gyllenborg has a strong frame he can grow into, but is severely lacking in play strength. He needs to grow and become more physical to stay on the field at the next level. On tape he lacks the punch and power in his hands you look for in a tight end.

He wasn’t able to create much force as a blocker and while he showed good effort, he was often getting pushed back off the line. His technique is a work in progress but teams could look at this as fixable with NFL coaching.

Gyllenborg is a big target with good ball skills at the catch point. He’s shown high-point ability and tracks the ball well down the field. He’s very fluid and efficient with his footwork. He doesn’t waste steps and has shown a good package of releases off the line to create initial separation.

Gyllenborg could be the fastest tight end in this class and his long strides help him explode into space and outrun defenders. That’s evidenced by his work down the field as he had one of the highest average depth of targets of any college tight end in 2024.

Gyllenborg is also quick in short areas and can accelerate away from defenders to create big plays. He has a good understanding for coverage and makes himself an easy target by sitting in the soft spots of coverages. He is an easy target to find and will be a quarterback’s best friend.

Gyllenborg has a lot of potential and can become one of the big time steals of this draft. He will be an effective pass catcher and if he can add some physicality to his game, his ceiling is sky high.

Bottom Line: Gyllenborg possesses elite traits as a vertical threat. As he grows into his frame, he can become a more physical player and succeed at the next level. His ceiling is high and the upside will definitely be intriguing to teams, but he’ll need to improve as a blocker in order to say on the field. In a strong tight end class, he is someone to keep an eye on.
