Just one season after an ACC Championship victory and a controversial snub from the last four-team College Football Playoff, the Florida State Seminoles took a tumble in 2024.
Head coach Mike Norvell is leading the team for another season — whether fans like it or not — and he’ll try to rid the bad vibes around Tallahassee and correct the course in an effort to make the 2025 CFP field.
FSU TE Markeston Douglas Discusses Program’s 2025 Vision
Florida State Seminoles tight end Markeston Douglas expressed the state of the team this offseason. ”I feel like everybody has flushed it,” Douglas said during a press conference after returning from a one-year stint with the Arizona State Sun Devils, where he played in the 2024 season.
After winning the ACC Championship and finishing undefeated (13-0) in 2023, the Seminoles were snubbed from the CFP — something that raised a debate everywhere in the country.
Jordan Travis was the team’s star quarterback and sustained a season-ending injury close to the end of the season, which the committee used as its primary argument behind FSU missing out on the playoff.
It argued FSU was no longer the same team without its starting QB, which was evident in the Orange Bowl, as the Georgia Bulldogs blew the Seminole sout 63-3.
Such an incident had never happened again, where an undefeated team was left out of the CFP. This led to a serious backlash from analysts, fans, and even politicians. As Douglas reflected in his speech, Florida State has since healed from this and is now ready for a successful season in 2025.
Douglas’ return to the FSU in the 2025 season was a win for the Seminoles. Standing 6’5″ and 275 pounds, he’s a massive player on the field.

In 2023, he appeared in 13 games and recorded 11 receptions for 136 yards and two touchdowns with the Seminoles.
Douglas only recorded one reception for three yards with Arizona State, contributing primarily as a blocker. Yet, he’s primed for a bigger receiver role with FSU and hopes to help return the program to on-field success.
