Deion Branch Becomes WRs Coach at Louisville

Branch played 12 NFL seasons, including two stints with the New England Patriots, where he won back-to-back Super Bowls in 2003-2004. He also won Super Bowl MVP after hauling in 11 catches for 133 yards.

His career NFL totals include 518 catches for 6,644 yards and 39 touchdowns. When the Cardinals Scott Satterfield stepped aside, Branch became the team’s interim head coach, leading the Cardinals to win in the Fenway Bowl.

On3’s Pete Nakos broke the news of his new appointment. Garrick McGee left his position as Louisville’s WRs coach to join Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels.

With Jeff Brohm at the helm of the Cardinals over the last couple of years, he and Branch have been able to get the team to 10 wins in 2023 and a 9-4 record last year that culminated in a Sun Bowl victory.

The Cardinals now have three consecutive seasons with eight wins or more and were ranked in the top 20, getting over 450 yards a game on offense. They averaged 36.5 points per game and were the only school to score 24 or more points in every game.

The Cardinals added Branch to their Ring of Honor after a career where he caught 143 passes for 2,204 yards and 18 TDs.

The Cardinals hope some of Branch’s experience can benefit Caullin Lacy, Chris Bell, and transfer portal additions T.J. McWilliams and Bobby Golden.

Bell had 43 receptions and 737 receiving yards in 2024, but Lacy did not play due to injury. He had 91 catches, 1,316 yards, and seven scores in 2023.

Branch moves to an on-field role from an off-field one. He and the Cardinals will kick off the 2025 season against the Eastern Kentucky Colonels at home on Aug. 30th.
